Actually I think one of the best parts of this trip is the fact that the setting is constantly changing, and there is as much variety and I can absorb. The difficulty is trying to describe it, so generally I’ll let the photos do the descriptions.

We pulled out of Little Falls around 8:30 AM,

and headed east toward Schenectady. The weather is warmer with only 1 brief squall all day, a lot more sun and blue skies.


The first lock of the day is #17 has a guillotine gate instead of the normal twin gates which open sideways

The trick is to stay dry when you pass under it.

From here to the Hudson we are in the Mohawk River and the speed limit is 45 MPH, which is faster than I can go, but you still are responsible for your wake. So we have to slow down to pass smaller boats, docks, and fishermen. Beyond that it’s just sit back and enjoy.






The end of June there was massive flooding in this area, and many of the locks and facilities were severely damaged. The worst was lock #10 which was closed for 6 weeks while they removed a capsized boat and rebuilt the lock, and now there is still a lot of rebuilding to be done.

About 5:00 PM we pulled into Blains Bay near Schenectady,


tied up, ordered carry out, and enjoyed the sunset.


It was a wonderfully isolated spot, disturbed only by a nearby interstate that we could hear but not see.

It was just a very relaxing day.
